This chapter explains how to mount the Platypus data collector device for your Orca system to the fork lift. This chapter is divided into four sections; each section covers one Orca variant. You only have to read the section for the Orca variant that you have purchased.
The Platypus data collector device for your Orca base variant can use either GPRS or Bluetooth to transmit the collected data. Mount the Platypus data collector device for as explained in the appropriate procedure below.
Remove the Platypus bottom plate, which is the one with the four black screws. These screws have washers.
Do not unscrew the screws on the Platypus top side cover under any circumstances.
After you have opened Platypus, insert the SIM card into the SIM card holder. Ensure that the SIM card is properly inserted and that the gold-colored contact areas are facing downward.
The SIM card and its contacts can be damaged by scratches or bending. Take extra care when handling, inserting, or removing the SIM card.
Verify that the PIN code request is disabled on the SIM card. This can be done by using any mobile phone.
Close Platypus by screwing back the four black screws at the Platypus bottom plate. Ensure that the plate is firmly fastened.
Fasten Platypus by using mounting accessories of your choice. Mounting accessories are not part of Platypus delivery. However, Platypus has 4.25 mm (0.167") mount screw holes for mounting Platypus to virtually any surface.
Ensure that Platypus is firmly fastened.
Connect the cables. Use strain-relief devices to prevent potential problems caused by inadvertent cable disconnection.
Connect the antennas. Use strain-relief devices to prevent potential problems caused by inadvertent antenna disconnection.
Connect the signal cables. Use strain-relief devices to prevent potential problems caused by inadvertent cable disconnection.
The cable connections are water-proof as specified in the IP68 Environmental Rating. If you do not equip all cable connections, seal the unmated connectors to maintain the IP68 rating. Seal the unmated connectors by using the blue sealing caps. If you received no sealing caps in your delivery, you can order sealing caps from Oliotalo Oy.
Connect the power cable. Use strain-relief devices to prevent potential problems caused by inadvertent power cable disconnection.
Safety circuits protect Platypus against overvoltage and overcurrent. Thus, no fuse is needed between the Platypus and the power supply.
This step is optional, but strongly recommended. Check the installation by using the maintenance display unit according to the instructions for the correct Orca variant.
The installation is now complete and Platypus is running.
